Patients receiving specialized care for back injuries are more likely to report improvement in functioning and a reduction in pain, and they have a greater chance of returning to work.

Many patients have significant pain and neurological deficit, preventing them from engaging in either work or day-to-day activities.

These individuals are at risk to develop chronic-pain syndromes, which predisposes them to long-term disability, sedentary lifestyles, and psychosocial dysfunction.

The Spine Center's approach to Pain Management has been designed to reduce pain so that patients can engage in a rehabilitation program without serious discomfort. Pain Management utilizes a host of medication and procedural options to aggressively reduce pain. With diminished pain, patients can benefit by active involvement in more specialized therapeutic activities. The therapists and the physicians at the Spine Center work closely with patients to establish a graded program to increase activity. Unlike other rehabilitation programs that do not incorporate pain management, Level Two patients are better able to benefit from restorative physical therapy.

The pain management team at the Spine Center believes in a time-limited, goal-orientated approach. This progressive philosophy aids in protecting patients from entering a cycle of chemical dependency and misusing the health-care system.
